Fabian's Take
CPO & Chief AI Officer
"Grok's image and video engine remains a hit-or-miss tool, but it deserves an honorable mention. If you need physics-accurate photorealism, go elsewhere. But for highly creative, stylized, or abstract motifs where you want to break away from sterile AI looks, Grok often surprises you with the most interesting result. Plus, the June 2026 Video 1.5 update makes animating those stylized images remarkably easy."
Full review
Grok Imagine is xAI’s dedicated visual suite, powered by xAI’s custom Aurora engine. It supports text-to-image, image editing, and text-/image-to-video generation within the Grok interface.
The creative wildcard
Grok Imagine is less constrained than photorealism-focused models like Google’s Nano Banana 2. That makes it a poor choice for rendering a realistic photo, but a fantastic option for creative, stylized, or artistic motifs.
If you are looking for concept art, expressive illustrations, or stylized layouts, Grok’s output often has more character and artistic flair than the more rigid generalist models.
Grok Imagine Video 1.5
The June 2026 update introduced Grok Imagine Video 1.5. This version improves motion coherence and physics simulation while adding native audio-visual synchronization. It lets you generate 4-second video clips from text or animate your generated images, keeping the artistic style intact during motion.
How to use it in your workflow
Grok Imagine is best used as a comparative tool. Run your prompt side-by-side in Grok, Midjourney, and GPT-Image-2. While the other models might give you the most accurate render, Grok will often give you the most visually interesting or unconventional option.
Who should use Grok Imagine
Subscribers to X Premium+ who want a fast, integrated image editor, and creators looking for a creative wildcard to generate stylized visuals or short video clips.
