Fabian's Take

CPO & Chief AI Officer

"Going from Nano Banana Pro to Nano Banana 2 is the biggest jump I've seen in an image model in a while. The photo editing got a lot better, but what keeps me coming back is that I can ask it for a ready-to-use screen mockup or a detailed infographic and get something usable on the first try. For my day-to-day that makes it the visual tool I reach for first."

Full review

Nano Banana 2 is Google DeepMind’s newest image model, a major iteration over the already strong Nano Banana Pro. It’s a clear step up, and not only in raw rendering. The bigger change is how well it handles structured design, editing, and real production workflows.

What Nano Banana 2 can actually do

Built on Gemini, Nano Banana 2 has moved past just generating pretty pictures into working as a solid digital production assistant. Its standout capabilities include:

  • Photo creation: The best photorealism I’ve seen right now. Physics-accurate lighting, convincing skin textures, proper reflections, and text rendering that’s hard to tell from a real camera shot.
  • Advanced photo editing: The in-painting and out-painting are genuinely strong. You can cleanly modify elements, swap out lighting conditions, or composite multiple objects together while keeping precise control using up to 8 reference images.
  • Screen mockups: It handles user interfaces well. Non-designers can prompt for accurate, vector-style UI/UX screen mockups for mobile apps and websites, outputting wireframes or high-fidelity designs right away.
  • Infographics & charts: Where previous models fell apart on structured information, Nano Banana 2 can generate clean, coherent infographics and basic data visualizations with legible text and graphs that actually hold together.

Nano Banana Pro vs. Nano Banana 2

While Nano Banana Pro was celebrated for its high fidelity, the version 2 update brings two fundamental upgrades:

  • Structured layouts: Pro struggled with spatial organization. Version 2 understands design patterns, allowing it to output coherent user interfaces, wireframes, and infographics with clean text.
  • Granular photo editing: The editing loop is significantly stronger. Version 2 can ingest up to 8 reference images to guide edits, making inpainting and object composition far more accurate.

How I use it

I prefer accessing Nano Banana 2 through Poe.com rather than Google’s native interface. Why? You get watermark-free images and much more granular parameter control over the output. It’s an essential part of my daily toolkit.

The competitive landscape

As of early 2026, Nano Banana 2 is at the front of the pack:

  • FLUX-2-Pro: Strong for production workflows but lacks Nano Banana 2’s structured infographic capabilities.
  • GPT-Image-2: Excellent for conversational editing inside ChatGPT, but Nano Banana 2 holds the edge for structured mockups and infographics.
  • Midjourney: Still holds the crown for purely artistic aesthetics, but increasingly lags behind Nano Banana 2 in real-world professional utility, UI mockups, and text generation.
