Fabian's Take
"Midjourney is still the king of 'pretty.' I don't use it for functional UI mockups anymore, but if I need a hero image for a blog post or concept art that looks like a painting, nothing else comes close."
Midjourney V8.2 has been the default model since 24 July 2026. Midjourney describes it as more creative, bolder and more sophisticated than V8.1, with fewer low-quality results and better personalization. It came with a new editing model that replaces the older Omni Reference, Character Reference and Retexture tools: you give it up to four reference images and describe the change you want.
The aesthetic advantage
Models like Nano Banana and GPT-Image-2.5 are built for practical, structured work. Midjourney stays focused on how an image looks. It has a recognizable style that leans toward dramatic light, rich textures and stylized art. If you want visual impact rather than an accurate layout, it’s still the tool to use.
Plans start at $10 a month; the unlimited “relax” mode starts with the $30 plan.
The Verdict
Best for: Concept art, stylized illustrations, and images where the look matters more than the layout.
