My take
It's just incredible what this video generator can do just from text prompts or one or a few reference images. To get to a proper video with consistent aesthetics, you still require an orchestrating tool like Google's Flow, though. I love it to animate images I've generated or to visualize something in an entertaining or humorous way.

Google Veo 3.1 is a big step up in text-to-video generation. Where earlier models produced choppy, inconsistent clips, Veo 3.1 creates clean 4, 6 or 8 second videos in 1080p or 4K, with native sound.
Where Veo stands now
Veo is no longer the only video model from Google. In the Gemini app, Gemini Omni Flash has replaced Veo for video. In Google’s Flow, both Veo 3.1 (Lite, Fast and Quality) and Omni Flash are available. In the Gemini API, Google recommends Omni Flash as the default, and the Veo 3.1 preview models shut down on 22 October 2026. Veo 3.1 itself is still Google’s leading video model for 1080p and 4K with sound, and this review is about Veo.

The Flow factor
For anything beyond single clips, you’ll want to use Google’s Flow tool to orchestrate multiple Veo-generated clips into a cohesive video with consistent aesthetics. Veo excels at individual clips, but maintaining visual consistency across a sequence still requires additional tooling. Video in Flow needs a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra plan, and the monthly Flow credits are 200 (Plus), 1,000 (Pro) and 10,000 or 25,000 (Ultra).
