Full Review
Perplexity is what Google should have become. Instead of giving you ten blue links, it reads across multiple sources and gives you a direct, sourced answer. If you research topics quickly and reliably for a living, it changes your day.
Why Perplexity beats traditional search
The core idea is simple: most of the time you donβt want links, you want answers. Perplexity reads the sources for you and gives you a coherent answer with citations you can click to verify.
Three ways I use Perplexity daily
Quick research. When I need to understand a topic fast, Perplexity gives me a well-structured overview with sources in seconds. A new technology, a market trend, a regulatory question β itβs my first stop.
Deep Research for strategic work. The Deep Research mode (Pro only) is the part Iβd miss most. Give it a complex question and it spends several minutes running iterative searches, reading dozens of sources, and writing up a full report. I use it for competitive analysis, understanding potential customers, and market sizing.
Automated daily tasks. One underrated feature: you can set up recurring research tasks. I have daily media monitoring running in Perplexity that tracks relevant industry news, competitor moves, and market developments, delivered automatically.
Practical use cases
- Market research: βWho are the main players in [your market], and how do they differentiate?β
- Learning: βExplain how transformer architectures work, starting from the basicsβ
- Competitive intelligence: βWhat has [competitor] announced in the last 30 days?β
- Technical evaluation: βCompare the latest approaches to AI-powered matching algorithmsβ
Who should use Perplexity
Anyone who spends real time researching, learning, fact-checking, or staying current. The Pro plan is well worth $20/month if research is any part of your job. The automated tasks alone make it worthwhile.
