Suno

An AI music tool for creating complete songs from a brief or your own lyrics, with v6 models and tools for revising the result.

Free tier / Pro $8/month / Premier $24/month, billed annually; download limits apply

My take

Suno is really good, and I've had a lot of fun making songs for my daughter and friends. A song about someone you know is a lovely reason to try AI music. I'd start with a few personal details and lyrics of your own, then try different musical styles.

Full review

I’ve had a lot of fun creating songs for my daughter and friends with Suno. It’s one of the AI tools I recommend simply because making something personal with it is enjoyable. You don’t need a music-production setup to turn an idea into a complete song.

Make it about someone you know

I’d start with the person rather than the genre. Write a few details that belong to them: an inside joke, something they love, or a memory you share. Turn those into a short verse and chorus, then ask for a musical style that fits.

Suno can generate vocals and instrumentation around your lyrics, or help generate the lyrics too. My recommendation is to contribute the personal details yourself. That’s what makes a song for a friend different from a generic song with their name in it.

What v6 adds

Suno’s v6 release includes the main v6 model, the more unpredictable v6-wild, and v6-mini. Pro and Premier subscribers get v6 and v6-wild; v6-mini is available to everyone.

The editing tools let you revise a section or individual lyrics instead of starting the whole song again. You can also use audio, images or video as input. I’d begin with lyrics and a style, then explore those options when you have a specific idea to try.

Sharing, downloads and cost

The free plan has daily generation credits, and you can listen and share Suno links. Downloading song files is a separate entitlement: Pro and Premier currently have monthly download allowances. The prices shown here are billed annually, so check the monthly option before subscribing.

For a personal song, sharing a listening link may be enough. If you want a file for a gift or an event, check the download rules first.

If you want to use a song commercially

Paid access alone is not the whole permission. Suno’s current terms tie commercial use to permitted downloads, and a licence from Suno does not guarantee that the song has copyright protection. I’d check the terms for that particular song before using it in an ad or releasing it commercially. For songs about family or friends, use lyrics and details you’re comfortable uploading.
