A cloud AI agent that researches a topic, works with the data, and builds reports or interactive apps in the same workflow.
My take
I've lowered this to 3.5. It's too expensive for what I get out of it. I can still see the appeal if you're less technical, especially when you want it to research a topic and build an app to explore the results. That's the use case I'd consider it for.

Perplexity Computer combines research with an agent that can work with files, run code and build apps in the cloud. I can see why that appeals to someone who wants a result without first setting up a development environment. For my own work, the price is harder to justify.
Where I still see a useful role
The interesting use case is a question that needs both research and an interface. For example: gather current information about a market, structure the findings, then build a small dashboard with filters so you can explore them. Having one tool do the research and build the app saves you from moving the material between separate tools.
I’d consider it for that combination, particularly if you’re less comfortable with coding tools. A report alone or a simple prototype gives me less reason to pay for it.
The cost changes the recommendation
Computer uses credits in addition to the subscription. According to Perplexity’s current credit rules, consumer Pro has no monthly Computer credit allocation; consumer Max includes 10,000 credits a month. One-time promotional credits are different from a recurring allowance.
That matters when comparing it with another AI subscription. Access to Computer does not mean your regular work with it is covered. I find it too expensive for what it can do for me, which is why my rating is now 3.5.
Check the research and the app
An interactive dashboard can make weak data look convincing. I’d check the underlying sources first, then test whether the app’s filters, calculations and summaries actually match them. Combining research and app creation makes that check more important.
