Grok Imagine
xAI's image and video generator inside Grok. Image 2.0 has caught up with the frontier in many respects, so if you use Grok a lot, you now have a strong visual tool built in.
My take
I've tested Image 2.0, and interestingly it has caught up with the frontier in many respects. Grok's visuals used to be hit-or-miss. Now, if you use Grok a lot, it's great to have this built in.

Grok Imagine is xAI’s visual suite inside Grok. It does text-to-image, image editing, and text- or image-to-video, all from the Grok apps and the X platform.
Image 2.0: caught up
Since 7 August 2026 the image side runs on Imagine Image 2.0, the “Quality Mode” in the apps. The first Grok Imagine was a wildcard: sometimes the most interesting result for a creative prompt, rarely the most accurate. Version 2.0 is a different story. In my tests it has caught up with the frontier image models in many respects, and it gives you more control than before: 1K or 2K resolution, quality settings, a range of aspect ratios and editing from up to five source images. Grok Imagine Video 1.5
Video 1.5 has been generally available since 16 June 2026 and generates sound, ambience and dialogue in the same pass. In the apps a quick clip is six seconds at 720p; since the end of July you can also start from text alone, go up to 1080p and use reference images to keep characters consistent. Through the API, clips run up to 15 seconds. More in the Grok Imagine Video 1.5 entry.
Pricing
In the apps, Grok Imagine comes with xAI’s paid plans: SuperGrok, or since 12 October 2026 the X Subscription bundles that combine Grok, X and Cursor benefits. xAI has reshuffled these plans several times this year, so check the current offer before you sign up. Developers pay 4 cents per image and 8 cents per second of video through the xAI API.
Who should use Grok Imagine
People who already spend their day in Grok or on X and want good images and short videos without switching tools. If you don’t use Grok, GPT-Image-2.5 or Nano Banana are the easier places to start.
